Has anyone been to this camp and could describe it for me a little bit

I went to this camp three years ago. It was a lot of fun. You spend every day in a different area of the park interacting with the animals. There is a lot of food preparation involved. Be prepared to have fish guts underneath your finger nails. The camp isn’t so much educational as it is immersive. You get to explore all the backstage areas and feel like you actually work there. The best part is exploring the penguin habitat and feeding them. You also get a lot of time to enjoy the park like a guest. Remember to wear lots of sunscreen. Its extremely uncomfortable to spend the week sunburnt. The residential housing for the campers is very nice. You stay in dormitory style rooms with bunk beds. They serve very good meals and have spacious outdoor areas for playing soccer or four square.
There were some things that could be improved, however. The counselors promise a beach day then take you to one of the worst beaches in San Diego. As a local southern californian I was embarrased that Sea World was showcasing some of the ugliest locales for the international campers. Furthermore at one point we visited the aviary where we were asked to clean the flamingo food bins. Typically the camp works on a play/work formula. You have to perform some grunt task, such as cleaning or preparing food, then you are rewarded with an animal interaction. At the aviary we were shoved into a smelly back room for what felt like more than an hour and given the task of dishwasher. It wouldn’t have been that bad if we were rewarded with a guided tour of the aviary exhibit or some special lesson on the tropical birds. Instead we were relieved from our duties by some worker on break and led straight back to the dorms. This bad experience happened only once and I suspect that in recent years that aspect of the camp has been improved.
Overall it was a wonderful experience. I encourage any animal lover to try it out.

They are tons of fun, I did a couple before, now if your just going for a day camp or weekend camp its not worth the flight but if you are doing a resident camp then it will be a blast. All the camps are fun but only the resident camps are worth traveling that far for.

When you pay the £32 to get into the park… do you get the zoo and sea-world included in that or do you have to pay extra?
Thanks for any Help
CJ
ye ive been before and know its 4 kids but I need to take my gf sumwhere with not big rides and she wants to go to the zoo etc. aswell so thought do all in one place lol i have only been there for the rides b4 wen i was about 13

Your entrance fee includes EVERYTHING. you do not need a separate ticket fot the Zoo OR Sealife Center.

I know this as i went as recently as a month ago (I live on the route and it’s damn easy to get there lol).

If you have a B.O.G.O.F ticket then you’ll have a cheap day out If not, buy your tickets online for a discount.
http://www.chessington.com/tickets/ticket_prices.asp

Of course, if you want to make the most of your weekend then why not book into the hotel adjacent to the park??

You’ll have a great time together, ignore the ones that say it’s crap. It’s what you make it. Anyway, they are most probably the ones that say Disney is crap too!

Have fun, check out the website for more info. And go and see the sealions being fed!

If it’s thrills your after though - try Thorpe Park rather than Chessington. They are not that far apart (and you could base yourself in the hotel and do both parks) but Thorpe is more for adults.

I saw Shamu’s show "Believe" and it was amazing!
I ended up speaking with one of the trainers for a brief amount of time. But i am sixteen and live about 4 hours away from San Antonio.
But i was wondering what would be the best college to attend to and what exact college classes i should take. I plan on attending the adventure camp next summer too.

You need to work on your swimming skills, become scuba certified, improve your public speaking and performance skills (when you watch the SeaWorld videos and animal shows notice how energetic, engaging, and animated the trainers are. You will be a performer and educator for the public as well as a trainer for the animals), and get as much experience with animals as you can. Volunteer at a shelter, with a domestic animal trainer, at a marine mammal rescue, etc. Zoos and Aquariums also usually offer volunteer opportunities for teens and college students. Some have keeper positions, some offer camp counselor positions, other offer jr docents/guides; any of these will give you good experience for a zoological job. There are also camps, classes, and other volunteer opportunities that will give you the experience you need.

Start learning what you can about animal training, animal behavior, psychology, and other subjects that may relate to being an animal trainer. It would also be good to join the International Marine Animal Trainers Association (IMATA). The IMATA also has a list of recommended books.

Some college degrees:
* http://www.seaworld.org/ask-shamu/faq.htm#animal-training
…applicants that have a degree in marine biology, animal behavior, zoology, psychology, or related fields are almost always the ones that get interviews.

* http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/current_students/teaching_zoo/FAQs.shtml
Exotic Animal Training and Management (EATM) Program

* http://animalscience.calpoly.edu/areas_of_study/zoo/careers.asp
Animal Science with a focus in the area of Zoo and Exotic Animal

*or a similar degree

Along with the courses required for the degree, perhaps, take some courses in: speech; drama; CPR; swimming; scuba; psychology; animal behavior; animal management; education; zoology; marine bio; etc.

After college, you might not be able to get a job right away as a marine animal trainer. You may have to work a different job or work with other animals till a marine animal trainer position becomes available. It might also be a good idea to do some sort of internship before applying. An internship is a good way to get experience and it may help get your foot in the door.

With so many people applying for so few positions, you need to do what you can to give yourself the edge over your competition.

Here are some links. Good Luck.
How do I become a marine animal trainer?

The following information is SeaWorld’s basic job description, requirements, and background information on an entry-level animal trainer position.
ANIMAL TRAINER
Responsible for the daily care, feeding and maintenance of show animals. Develops and trains animal behaviors and performs in animal shows for the public and educational shows for school groups. An apprenticeship period of at least a year is required for all trainer positions, even with previous experience.
Our requirements for animal trainers include:
° must be at least 18 years of age
° prior experience training animals
° public speaking, drama, or other performance and communication skills (a microphone test is part of the interview process)
° experience working with animals
° scuba diving certification
° CPR certification
° an ability to interact with the public
° academic coursework in zoology, marine biology, animal behavior or psychology (preference is given to those applicants with a college degree)
° strong swimming skills (part of the interview process is a rigorous swim test that includes a 200 ft. freestyle swim, a 100 ft. underwater swim, and a free-dive to the bottom of a 26 ft. pool.)
° excellent physical health and the ability to lift 50 lbs.
In addition, even with previous training experience, new trainers are hired as associate trainers, and learn about SeaWorld’s training methods and animals in at least a one-year apprenticeship period.

HOW TO GET EXPERIENCE
To try and see if a career in animal training or animal care is for you, SeaWorld offers a weeklong Career Camp for grades 9-12 during the summer at all three parks. Check online at SWBG-AdventureCamps.com for more information.
Many colleges and universities offer internship opportunities along with the local zoos or aquariums as part of a zoological science or similar type of degree program. Moorpark College in Southern California offers a special Exotic Animal Training and Management program designed for those who want to enter into zoological careers. In Florida, Santa Fe Community College and Pensacola Junior College offer similar programs. Volunteering at a local animal shelter, veterinarian, or wildlife rescue facility is another great way to get experience. In addition, many zoos and aquariums have docent or other volunteer positions available. It is also helpful to gain experience at the park or facility that you’re interested in working for. At SeaWorld, many of our openings for trainer and animal care positions go to applicants that have worked at the park in another department such as education - so this is a great way to get your foot in the door.

Another thing to keep in mind is when position openings are available. At SeaWorld, we have most openings for trainers and animal care in the early spring, and usually post these positions on our website (www.becjobs.com ) in late winter. During this time we hold the swim tests and microphone tests as the initial parts of the interview process.

As you can imagine, we get hundreds of applicants each year for trainer positions. For killer whale trainers there may only be one or two openings each year— so this is an even more competitive area to get into. While a college degree is not currently required, those applicants that have a degree in marine biology, animal behavior, zoology, psychology, or related fields are almost always the ones that get interviews. Also, the swim test and microphone test are critical parts of the interview process. Most people who take these tests do not pass the underwater swim portion of this test, so it is critical to practice for this.

The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (www.aza.org ) also posts career information and job openings on its website. We also have a lot more info on our website (www.swbg-animals.org ) about training and other animal careers. Other great sites to check out are the websites for the International Marine Animal Training Association (www.imata.org) and the Society for Marine Mammalogy (this has an excellent section on pursuing a career in marine mammal science at

Contact Greyhound for bus information.

You can take the train down, but the closest stop will be its destination station — downtown, necessitating a $25.00 cab ride.

So, you’d probably spend less by just renting a car. If you do so, drive south on I-5. Once you pass La Jolla, you’ll see signs for Sea World — you can see it about a mile to your right when you exit.

My family and I are all going to California to go to Disneyland, CA, and Sea world.
The ages inculde 17, 11, 6, and 3. The 17, 11, and 6 year old enjoy speed and huge rides. (mostly the 17 and 11 year old)
The 3 year old enjoys cars and trains.
I would find it helpful to get some worthy tips on how to plan out the park days.

PLEASE AND THANK YOU:)

Costco usually has the cheapest tickets to these places.

Be sure to take advantage of the fast pass option. This can save you lots of time.

Your older children will be bored with some of the rides that your younger children will want to ride. It might be wise to separate for part of the time at least. Some of the rides have a special Single rider line that can also save lots of time for your older children. You go to the front of the line and are placed in whenever there is space for a single rider. Space Mountain and California Soars are the 2 rides I can think of that have this. Sometimes you walk right onto the ride in 5 minutes or less this way!

Be at the parks when they open. They are far less crowded and you can get a lot more done when there are less people. If you are staying nearby, take a break and go back to your hotel. Swim, relax, take a nap and then return to the the park after dinner. The last 2 hours before closing are usually way less crowded as well.

While in San Diego, you might want to take in some of the museums in Balboa Park. The zoo is also located in the park. There’s a children’s train ride near the zoo that your 3 year old would enjoy and a museum all about model trains.

The great country of America and her great richness, great institutions and great towns and cities spread out like a blanket over the surface of the Western Hemisphere with her tall buildings going upward over a hundred stories! The great architects and building engineers have become such experts at building to precision that it makes their past history of two and four thousand years ago look like child’s play.
Her land is shadowed with the wings of her many planes that cover her almost like a cloud. The great and wonderful work of science on the earth and in the air, her great mighty fleets afloat on the high seas (on the surface and below the surface), her great scientific mechanical communications system! Yet, with all of this might of skill in engineering or building, the country of America displays and practices more savagery than any civilized country on the earth. And all of her educational institutions are not enough to make a man so intelligent and proud of his education and of being an American citizen that he would not practice the same savagery.

There is no such thing as law and order. The law is disregarded, as though it were thrown in the jungles to be carried out by savage beasts. Murdering, killing, robbery, raping and drug addiction are the only law and order that is respected.

It has become such a country that the civilized man of intelligence and decency is afraid to walk the streets of the vast towns and cities of America. He would be more secure in the jungles, around and in the midst of wild beasts, than to be walking in the streets of these great cities in America after night.

Groups of robbers and murderers, killers and dope addicts are prowling the streets at night to exact their evil intentions upon the innocent. This is a mob of savages that the intelligent and decent woman should not dare venture among. And if we see such women walking around, they are part of this savage people.

It has become dangerous even for a girl or woman to stand alone in any unprotected place, day or night. Rapists lurk around bus stations and robbers and thieves are also at such stations; and with such conditions existing in a so-called civilized country like America, this is the worst name that could be applied to her.

Police, detectives and FBI all are here; but these daring savage acts are committed right before their eyes and ears.
Orange is right, cheated but got it right.

How’d ya like them apples Wesley?

by the way this is for 8th grade..and i didn’t welcome everyone cause that’s someone else’s job
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I am glad to represent Totten I.S. 34’s class of 2009. Today is the day we have all been waiting for. It’s finally graduation. I remember my first day in I.S 34 when Mr. Boyle told us all that our three years would go by in a snap. I like many of you found that hard to believe. Today, when I look back at that moment I can tell that he was right. The first day In I.S 34 was overwhelming, new teachers, new building, new kids, and new rules. We were lucky to get the best assistant principal, Mr.Boyle, and the best dean, Mr. Lafier. The two of them have made our three years as entertaining as possible.
Sixth grade was fun, we all made new friends and we became adapted to the school. The worst part about sixth grade was having to walk up three flights of stairs everyday from the lunchroom to get to the third floor. When seventh grade started some friendships ended and others got stronger. We got to see more of the school because our classes were no longer next door to each other. Eight grade began and we were all excited, we were finally seniors. Since September we were all looking forward to great adventures, prom, and graduation. But as the days passed by we realized 8th grade wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be. We had so many tests and so little time. At first I couldn’t wait to get out of this school, but as time flew by I realized I dreaded the last day of school. The last day of school meant the last day in I.S. 34, the last day with all the teachers who we got to know really well, and most importantly, the last day with many friends we have grown to love.
There are many teachers in I.S. 34 I will miss. Every teacher I had was unique in his or her own way. Mrs. Stabile is best math teacher I have ever had, she’s crazy and she admits it. Mrs. Verderber was my favorite science teacher, she’s a very dedicated teacher who has a strong passion for science. Mrs. Salveseen is one of those teachers who is actually nice but likes to be known as the “mean teacher”.
Graduation isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning. We will all begin high school next year. High school is when we have to choose our own path and be separated from the friends we have come to love. Many of us will be attending high schools within Staten Island such as, Tottenville, Moore, Sea, Tech, Wagner, and Farrell. Others will venture outside Staten Island and go to high schools like La Guardia, Stuyvesant, and Brooklyn Tech. The idea of going to high school is bittersweet. Bitter because we have no idea what’s ahead of us, and sweet because it will surly be a great experience.
High school is the beginning our future. We must all follow our dreams and do whatever it takes to achieve them. The great Walt Disney once said, “ All our dreams can come true……..if we have the courage to pursue them.” It takes more than education to have a successful and sparkling future. We must also have strength, determination, courage, faith, inspiration, and most importantly a vivid imagination. My fellow classmates, the best advice I can give you is not my own, but that of the great writer Dr. Seuss. “ You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”
Even though this is my last year in I.S. 34 this school will always be a part of me. There are many memories that I will cherish forever. I will always remember the fun times me and my friends had on our numerous trips. I will never forget Mr.Boyle and Mr.Lafier’s constant bickering or how Mr. Preston was only a couple of inches away from hitting the ceiling.
Over these 3 years we have all made great friends, whom we will remember forever. We will always have a place in our heart for them, even though we are all going our separate ways. Always remember, “ To accomplish great things we must not only act, but also dream. Not only plan, but also believe.” Always strive for what you want, and you will go far. As we the class of 2009 walk out these doors ready to face the world let us take the time to think about all those who got us here. Our mothers, fathers, family, principal, assistant principal, dean, and most of all our wonderful teachers. Thank you.

Wow! I think that this is a great speech I wish you luck!
